"Despite my inner rejection of orientalisms (the trumpet was the bearer of a wedding-gypsy temperament), I found in some of the pieces a magical reference to unsuspectly deep layers, winding through the infinite dwellings of antiquity -- the voice and flute, brought to earth by the trumpet."
Natalia Ilieva, Kultura weekly, Sofia, December 9, 2002 |
| Messing met PVC is a duo project of flautist Ned McGowan and trumpet player Gijs Levelt, the founders of the Karnatic Lab. They regularly perform with special guests, such as singer Martha Mavroidi, with whom they recently recorded the CD 'Paximadi'. Guests are invited to contribute their own compositions and both Ned and Gijs write for the band. The repertoire consists of a curious mix of Balkan music, improvisations and contemporary compositional music. |
