The Herb Spectacles
The Herb Spectacles were formed in autumn 1999, originally consisting of three members of The Treble Spankers and one of De Amsterdam Klezmer Band. After some searching, a marimba player and a percussionist were finally found via a newspaper advertisement.

Within a few weeks they were playing gigs in pubs and cafes, with a performance at the Lowlands Festival 2000 as a final result. This got things going and since then the 'Specs' have played at many different venues, including beach tents, (film) festivals and clubs in Germany.
Then finally, in June 2003, the release of the debut CD " The Incredible World of The Herb Spectacles ", recorded in 2002-3 with the current members: the two remaining Spankers (Frank Sloos passed the drumsticks on to Philip ten Bosch), complemented by distinguished guests such as the guitar players Don van Dongen ( Speed 78 ) and Roberto Telefono, and trumpet player Manuel de los Campos.

The music of The Herb Spectacles consists of a mixture of South-American Tijuana and mariachi sounds. In the sixties this type of music gained great popularity through the work of musicians such as Chet Baker, who apart from his jazz work recorded many mariachi albums, and of course Herb Alpert, who made the style famous overnight with his Tijuana Brass.

The debut CD of The Herb Spectacles contains a lot of compositions by the band members. Inspired by the Tijuana and mariachi sound the Specs endeavour to breathe new life into this musical style.
'The Incredible World of The Herb Spectacles' was released by Excelsior Recordings.
